Crayons

You always say you wish you could do it different
You feel you always get the raw end
You don't get back what you give
Seems to me
There's too many "you"s in your thinking
We never claimed living was easy

Sometimes it helps to take it back to crayons and colored pencils
Color your world like a child
We could all do with
A little childish nature
To make this grown up world not so bad

Please listen as I say,
"You have to face your mistakes
Do whatever it takes to change.
There is no would be, should be, or could have been
There's just what is and what will be
And it's not always what we see initially."

You start shaking and you're laughing out loud
Choose your words carefully
Cause like a knife
Once you cut you can't take it back
You're not a boy anymore
There will be consequences

You've been working too hard and too long
You need to breathe
You need to play

Please listen as I say,
"You have to face your mistakes
Do whatever it takes to change.
There is no would be, should be, or could have been
There's just what is and what will be
And it's not always what we see initially."

I can see your face now
I can't help but feel different than you
I've been talking to myself lately
Now I just have to turn it off
And walk...

Just listen one last time.
Your mistakes are done
Do whatever it takes to get past them
There is no would be, should be, or could have been
There's just what is and what will be
So please wake up and see
