I see a couple skipping
along the sidewalk
beside;
Puts his hands back
to his side, little unsure
new to him this girl is.
Something beautiful has died,
one year n three
months aside;
Don't live in regret
he tells himself,
it's better this way he says.
Dad says it will be okay,
I know what you need.
He looks at His son
And cries inside.
It will hurt a while
Again you will smile
Your heart will mend
Just let it heal.
Now it is she
Minus me.
Sobered every time he thinks of her,
his would-be wife,
now turned away.
Sun still rises, still warm
on his face, but seems
strangely colder now.
Eyes seem dazed when he looks
in the distance,
each cloudy day.
Her smile fades from his mind,
he doesn't see
her anymore now.
Her rolling laugh rings
in his ear, what he wouldn't
give to hear that sound;
The love he'd thought
he'd finally found, only fake smiles
he gives to those around.
