Silver

Under a silver sky
With clouds of white
And streaks of grey

Trees shine like silver
The silhouettes cut into night
A pale moon pours over the rest

It's peaceful here
Away from the brightness of day

And I wish I could freeze
This place where I am
A photograph or film
Never fully capture
It's so peacful here

Pettles of silver grass
Strewn on this rolling field
Must be a dream

Seemingly silver moonlight
Floats through the night's darkness
Like a fog of pale glimmer

It's peaceful here
In the deep grays and shining silver

And I wish I could freeze
This place where I am
A photograph or film
Never fully capture
It's so peacful here

The silver shine on the pond
With ripples of light
The air is cool in the night

The beauty of the night
Is that you only lasts a while
Silver shades slowly brighten

It's peaceful here
In this atmosphere

And I wish I could freeze
This cool morning breeze
A photograph or film
Can't capture the chill
On my skin

Slowly the sun peeks the far hill
Air is still chill
The sound of birds wakes my senses
More than anything else
I know you're near

Counting Stars

It's the thing about counting
You could hypothetically continue
For days and year and lifetimes
But for what?

This song that I sing
Echoes inside of me
Most can't hear a thing
But that's enough for me

Please don't count me out
I know what I did
Just don't count me out
I was just a kid

Thought I'd lost my dreams
Somewhere between pain and lonely
But that just what seems
Cause I'm lonely

So don't count me out this time
I couldn't bear it if you did
Just count your fingers
I was just a kid

I rest on the ground
Look up at the stars in the sky
As I count, I make not a sound
And let my thoughts fly to the sky

I said don't count me out
You know what I did
Just leave it where it is
I was just a kid

I smile now, just because
Amazes me that I hate the me
That I used to be, but what was
Is no long who I see as me

Oh don't count me out
Cause I know what I did
And it's not me anymore
I was just a kid

Back to talking about counting
It happens one after the other after the other
You have to count on something
Why not count on me?

A Question & An Answer

You'll always need someone to fix
You think you are some kind of answer
But you're more of a question than anything
Charm will only get you so far
Then it drops you so hard

You sit, staring at the twig
Your eyes can't focus on anything
When you lost your focus
You're like a plane
With only one wing
You'll fall, soon enough

You'll always need someone to fix
You think you are some kind of answer
But you're more of a question than anything
Charm gets you so far
Then it drops you so hard

You stumble over your words
Your lips never failed you like this
But when you can't think of what so say
You're like a flight
You didn't mean to miss
But it left you, and you couldn't speak up

You'll always need someone to fix
You think you are some kind of answer
But you're more of a question than anything
Charm gets you this far
Then it drops you so hard

Please just stop it, n follow my lead
You don't even know the way, so just stop trying
You're like a scared little child
Lost in a long lonesome terminal
No one around notices, you start to crying
But you're lost n no one sees

I'll always need someone to fix
I think I are some kind of answer
But I'm more of a question than anything
Charm will only get me so far
Then it drops me so hard

Just shut your mouth for once
You've said more than you ever should
Cause when you're silent, n just sit still
You're like a butterfly
You realize that you could
Appreciate all those little things

So here's this question for you
Will you let go
Or will you keep on trying
You're not an answer
This is my question

It's Not Okay

I used to hinge on expectation
But that just lead to frustration
And it's not okay
No not okay
Nothings seems right
Anymore

I wanna buy a motorcycle
And just drive away
Drive away
From this place
From here

I've gotten used to the mundane
Seems to drive me insane
And it's not okay
No not okay
Nothing seems sane
Anymore

Flying doesn't seem so hard
Till ya try to fly away
And get away
Outta this here town
This here place

I'd like to drive to your place
But there's no you in that space
And it's not okay
No not okay
Nothing seems believable
Anymore

Now dreams don't come so easy
When your heart's gone away
It's run away
Outta this here place
It's outta here

How do you reset your brain
When ya wanna forget even your name
It's not okay
No not okay
All I ask for is
Just one dream
Just one more

Memoir of Mr. Messick

I just heard the news today
They only give him
Two more months

I know, it doesn't seem real
And everything happened so fast
How can things turn
So quickly

How are you doing
People always say to you
What can you really say

I just heard the news today
And I'm sorry about your dad
Two weeks doesn't seem long enuf

And I know it's hardly real
It's been so little time
Why do you have to so soon
Say goodbye

So many things left unsaid
Would do things different
But there's no time for that

I just heard the news today
He has passed today
He hadn't been awake for a couple days
But he's gone home

I just remember him
Sounds so cliche
But it seems like it was yesterday
But we will miss him

Brings a tear to my eye
I just sat n cried
Just the other night

I just hate the news today
He has passed two hours ago
He hadn't been awake for a while
But now he's gone, gone, gone

My last memories of you were sweet
I sat in your room n read some verses
And as I prayed over you
Tears streamed down my face

Wish I would have known you more
Your sweets girls n a boy did so love
Oh sir, we will see you when
We meet above

This was written as two dear friends' of mine had their father taken by cancer. He passed earlier today. For myself, it's probably been one of the most saddening and painful things that I've gone through in a long time. I know it's been even harder for my friends, Anna and Georgie. Mr. Messick, we will miss you immensely.

Dealings of Your Mind

You turn your head
To the side
If you can't deal with
How things are going in your mind

Then you turn your head
The other way
When you're tired
Of looking at it that way

Don't know if you see it
But things aren't so far
As you think they are
If you just slow it down some

You turn your head aside
Too much you've tried
But to deal with this lovely life
Step it back in your mind

No clever solutions
Can fill an empty
But empty becomes full
When you just slow it down some

Slow it down some
Slow it down son
Let's just talk and take our time

You turn your head aside
Too much you have going on
But to see the lovely life
Step it back some, all words gone

Slow it down some
Slow it down son
Let's just talk and take our time

Just need a new perspective
Knowing that
I can't just hide

One side sits crazy
Other side is lazy
I say neither

Just slow it down some
Slow it down son
It's okay to play

Oh, I love how God works in my heart (and in ours) so relentlessly. He will wisper, and He will always be waiting, and He will continue to speak. In this song, He's been clearing some the things in my life and heart and taking His time with it. He is so patient. It's most evident when I realize how long He's been wispering something to me and it sometimes takes a while for things to really be rooted in me. He just wants me to be still, listen, and love Him. When He has man's heart (speaking of our race), man can be used far more effectively. When our heart becomes God's heart, He is truly please.
