Tenderness

Crudely constructed
And cold sometimes
What would I know
A putz reading lines

Sometimes I wonder why
Someone so lovely can find
Someone as me in compare
Someone so sweet and kind

Tenderness
Your sweet face
Tenderness
Your sweet ways
Tenderness

Vastly different
Yet so much the same
We walk together
A poem woven in rhyme

Sometimes I wonder why
Someone as beautiful as you

Someone as me, a bum
Someone so patient and true

Tenderness
Your sweet face
Tenderness
Your sweet ways
Tenderness

A total mess
Rags of shame
He redeems all these
From wild, now tame

Sometimes I wonder why
Someone so lovely can find
Someone as me in compare
Someone so sweet and kind

Tenderness
Your sweet face
Tenderness
Your sweet ways
Tenderness

Our brokenness
Pieces torn apart
What could I know
Of tenderness...

Tenderness
Your sweet face
Tenderness
Your sweet ways
Tenderness

Crazy (Three Reasons Why)

I met her when I was young
Eyes for so many
Growing up is my final destination
She thought, when he grows up, maybe then

She said
Why would we date,
Are we crazy
We're too much alike
Are we crazy
We'd be crazy

I took her hand and said follow me
Stepping so slow
She thought it would be blissful on clouds
It did not go as we had planned upon

She said
Why are we dating,
Are we crazy
We're too hard to hold on to
Are we crazy

We must be crazy

I took her hand and said follow me
I'm as lost as you
Stressed and also fully aware that
I know what's true, that we fit

She said
Why would we stay,
Are we crazy
We're too much
Are we crazy
We are crazy

I took her hand and said nothing
She asked if I
If I like her as much as when we first met
As my reply, no hesitation I won't of the real you

She said
Why would we play
Are we crazy
We're too little for us
Are we crazy
We must be crazy

I ask myself
Why would we trust
Something so weak as love?
Why do we lust, then hurt and cry?

A little voice in my head replies
One... It's worth the pain
To hold you
Two... It's true we grow old
I answer why
Three... You don't fake how you feel
And that's what make you real

Are we crazy
We must be crazy
We're crazy and undone
But at least we're havin fun...

My heart changed after this song. Something inside me led me not to trust feelings anymore. I have become more synical now. I don't know if it's good or bad that I now do not trust my heart. I only wrote one song in the next year, and that one was only about feeling numbed by the world ("I Feel Alright").

Home to Me

Ill at ease and hard to focus
Head fuzzy from sleep
Lack there of, I know you notice
Stomach bahhhd like sheep

Cause you know you're what I'm glowing from
May be tired and my senses turned up numb

You're home to me
I can go anywhere
It will always be
As long as you're there
You're home to me

Lying there resting my eyes
Head fallen to sleep
Dreams about distant hills and skys
Awake I will now keep

Cause you know you're what I'm glowing from
May be tired and my senses turned up numb

You're home to me
I can go anywhere
It will always be
As long as you're there
You're home to me

Not so distant as a dream
Head holds your sleep
As I hold your hair stream
You fall to me from cliffs steep

Cause you know you're what I'm glowing from
May be tired and my senses turned up numb

You're home to me
I can go anywhere
It will always be
As long as you're there
You're home to me

Dazed and kind of tired
Head new from sleep
I'm awake now and home
It will always be
As long as you're there
You're home to me

I actually wrote this while I was dating someone and I dreamed such a strange dream. First I dreamed that I thought I was smothering the girl relationally. Apparently then I was getting ready to date another friend of mine, Katie, and I was like, "Wait, I like someone else (my girlfriend)!!" I grabbed my girlfriend in a group of friends and pulled her into the next room to talk. She talked about how I was smothering her and as she spoke her face was suddenly a guy's face (tall & dark haired). But like you know in a dream, I still knew it was her... weird!!

In My Darkness (You Come)

Why do you come to me
Sometimes I wonder
So much I can't see
You come when I'm weaker

As the darkness covers the light
The earth and the sky disappear in darkness
The become one in the night
They are indistinguishable in the darkness
They are together when it is darkest

Then is when you come
You come in my darkness
You know where I've come from
You come there in my darkness
Then is when you come

As nature eclipses in the seasons
Winter to summer the weathers change
They entrance us for so many reasons
Interwoven from cold it seems strange
Turning to heat on this desert range

Then is when you come
You come in my desert
You know where I've come from
You come there in my desert
Then is when you come

As is formed in this world
The beauty from blood to such a wonder
The delicate little finger curled
The spell the angel has us under
Makes us forget our darkness and thunder

Then is when you come
You come in my thunder
You know where I've come from
You come there in my thunder
Then is when you come

Lord, I am in such awe of how faithful you are to stay with me as I am unfaithful to you. You are there in my victories and in my darkness, in my desert, and in my thunder. In my pain I can call on your Name and you are good and faithful to hold me. Thank you

I See You (You Are There)

With sand pressed against my bare feet
I see you in the vast ocean before me
Wind blowing thru my unkempt hair
In the lapping of the surf on the shore
You are there

In the ocean and
In the fields
In the mountains
I can see you

All that's around me
Wispers faintly in my ear
When I think of the oceans
And the fields that lie below the mountains above
You are there
They wisper in my ear
You are there

With reeds and tall grass around me
In the rolling hills and fields ahead
A warm breeze rolling thru the grass
In the dance of butterflies and reeds
You are there

In the ocean and
In the fields
In the mountains
I can see you

All that's around me
Wispers faintly in my ear
When I think of the oceans
And the fields that lie below the mountains above
You are there
They wisper in my ear
You are there

With the rise of the mountain's foot ahead
I see you in majesty of cliff's serene
And cold wind blows off the mountain side
In the creaking of the trees all around
I see you there

In the ocean and
In the fields
In the mountains
I can see you

All that's around me
Wispers faintly in my ear
When I think of the oceans
And the fields that lie below the mountains above
I see you

They wisper in my ear
I see you there

Blanket of Haze

Walkin' down a dirt path at night,
The echo of the stages all around.
I look up through the trees above,
I don't make a sound.

Fadin' slowly is my tired mind,
The moon sneaks around above.
I see it in a blanket of haze,
It is just enuv (enough)...

The past is there for a reason,
Please leave it there this season.
I pray you remember the good times,
Forget the bad.
Please feel the memories, yet lose the mistakes
In the haze of the past.

In a blanket of haze
When you're off in oblivion
Rest in a blanket of haze
Don't get lost in oblivion
Let the blanket of haze on the moonlight
Cover you in memory's dark night.
Comin' out though the clearing,
Like waking from a forest of sleeps.
I see you in my thoughts,
I am unplugged as night creeps.

The past is there for a reason,
Please leave it there this season.
I pray you remember the good times,
Forget the bad.
Please feel the memories, yet lose the mistakes
In the haze of the past.

In a blanket of haze
When you're off in oblivion
Rest in a blanket of haze
Don't get lost in oblivion
Let the blanket of haze on the moonlight
Cover you in memory's dark night.
Thinkin' about a sweet girl.
Want to walk here next to you.
I'm sending you a good night
Oh sweet heart, love you I do.

I pray you remember the good times,
Forget the bad.
Please feel the memories, yet lose the mistakes
In a blanket of haze
When you're off in oblivion
Don't get lost in oblivion
Let the blanket of haze on the moonlight
Cover you in memory's dark night.

Missing Piece

Searching the whole world over
I can't seem to find it
Don't fully even know it

Confused and perplexed
I have so many defects
All together, I am not
I've been thinkin' an awful lot
How you...

You fill the broken peace
Of my scattered heart
You were the missing piece
From the very start
When I fell apart
The missing piece, of this heart

Searching never seems to help
Even if I think I found it
Nothing seems to really fit

Confused and perplexed
I have so many defects
All together, I am not
I've been thinkin' an awful lot
How you...

You fill the broken peace
Of my scattered heart
You were the missing piece
From the very start
When I fell apart
The missing piece, of this heart

Searching is all that I'll do
Unless I see I've found it
A dark heart is now lit

Confused and perplexed
I have so many defects
All together, I am not
I've been thinkin' an awful lot
How you...

You fill the broken peace
Of my scattered heart
You were the missing piece
From the very start
When I fell apart
The missing piece, of this heart

Searching brings me just closer
Cause you're how I found it
It was you, I always knew it.

You fill the broken peace
Of my scattered heart
You were the missing piece
From the very start
When I fell apart
The missing piece, of this heart

When I wrote this, I seemed to think that some girl was a missing piece of my heart. Looking back, it was so romanticized and far from the truth. I can see that no girl or mate is going to fill a broken piece in my heart. That is not her job. No woman can fill these broken places in my heart. Those pieces were only meant to be filled by the Lord. What I've yearned for so many times, is not what I thought it was.

Be Here Now

Each day I end my toil
I long to close my eyes for sleep
Cause that means one more day
Gone by, It seems to just creep

Each day away
Seems so long
I would say
Be here now
I need to be here
Just think how
Live where I am
Be here now
I need to be here now

I just want the days to
Go faster because they are so slow
Creeping by as though chained
My mind is captive to that future glow

Each day away
Seems so long
I would say
Be here now
I need to be here
Just think how
Live where I am
Be here now
I need to be here now

I know I gotta chill out
Enjoy the now that I am in
Hard as it may so seem
As this time goes by in the now and then

Each day away
Seems so long
I would say
Be here now
I need to be here
Just think how
Live where I am
Be here now
I need to
be here now

Be here now...

I wrote this because of how I knew I needed to live while a girl was away for the summer. I just got so antsy and would write every day. I just needed to enjoy where the Lord had me and to "live where I am, be here now."

The Darkness

My street is strangely dark tonight
From behind me, creeps a fright
I calmly check over my shoulder
To see if anyone follows
Look around in all darkened alleys
I make ever so quiet swallows
~ ~ ~
The night is breeding ground for darkness
People creeping slowly, not a witness
Even close here for miles around
Shadows sneak up slowly upon me
And receed away just as quickly
The darkness hides things I can not see
~ ~ ~
The sidewalk rolls uneven in the dark
Eyes are creeping that I can't mark
The haven for evil and unholy
Any creatures that do prowl around
Hissing, growling or even worse
They make not even a sound
~ ~ ~
This street is a street in my mind
Darker than any you will find
As I walk daily thru this darkened way
These uneven streets are in disrepair
They need much mending 'n to be lit
My street is still strangely dark tonight

This was written to make a picture of what most people have somewhere in their mind's eye, streets and places that have never been mended. These places in my mind are where I have let the past fester and where unholy things tear at my mind. It is in the darkest times only that you can see these streets, and many times you never want to see that wicked street again...

Gone

Where is all I ask?
This television drama
Sydney Bristow as some agent
Is her body what sells?
Intrigue that lasts all of an hour
Imagines turn our mind sour

Where have we gone?
Gone to distractions
Gone to anything
Anything that holds us in a spell
Where have we gone?

Where is all I ask?
We call it reality TV
Women fighting men
Does strife interest us so?
Jerry Springer keeps us in a trance
Not degrading to us at first glance

Where have we gone?
Gone to distractions
Gone to anything
Anything that holds us in a spell
Where have we gone?

Where is all I ask?
This news show
People being wronged
Does the bad only stay?
Death and destruction mezmorizes for a time
Disasters distract us from the good to crime

Where have we gone?
Gone to distractions
Gone to anything
Anything that holds us in a spell
Where have we gone?

Where is all I ask?
Workers wacked out
Warped-minded man
Does mischief, mayhem, and soap sell?
Brad beating himself up is Pitt-iful
Is this what a man's supposed to look like?

Where have we gone?
Gone to distractions
Gone to anything
Anything that holds us in a spell
Where have we gone?

I'm only asking
Cause I wanna know
How we were tricked
To believe

I am only asking this question because I want to know how we were tricked into being distracted from what is real and will last? Television more than anything else in our society holds us in a spell. How people relate and how children learn many times can be seen on TV, which is sad!!

Wake Up, Peter

I'm so tired and wasted
Away. I deal with bitter
Ness, what's the point I say
To Myself? It's such a shame
That I'm still at the same
Place, I still wanna play

Oooo Ooo Oowww
Growing up is hard to do
Oooo Oowww
I just wanna be a boy
Oooo Oowww
Twenty five and still alive
I'll just stay five
Ahh ahh

I'll be twelve and be ready
For, any chance to act my shoe
Size. yet at my little core
I know, it always ends up
That, every boy grows up
Except one, for sure

Oooo Ooo Oowww
Growing up is hard to do
Oooo Oowww
I just wanna be a boy
Oooo Oowww
Twenty five and still alive
I'll just stay five
Ahh ahh

I can't escape the fact that
I must, whether I want to or
Not, face what I have just
Seen. The boy can still be
There, but he needs to be
Able to be just here

Oooo Ooo Oowww
Growing up is hard to do
Oooo Oowww
I just wanna be a boy
Oooo Oowww
Twenty five and still alive
I'll just stay five
Ahh ahh

Call me Peter, I fly from
Captain Hook. I look for dear
Wendy, but she is just a girl.
Wake up, Peter, and take a look.
You're bigger now, not a clever book
Life is never clear,
So be a boy a bit
But only for a while.

Mom, this is a dedication to you on your 50th Birthday. You've pushed me out of the womb physically, and the metaphorical womb of the world. It's now 25 years later and you are now twice the person I am... ha haaa. I wrote this at a time when friends seem shallow, and I find little good in who I see around. Synical, I know, but being a boy I don't have to deal with my bitternesses and feelings of disappointment. I have been compared to Peter Pan before, as the only boy who will never grow up. In this case, Peter is an escape from my problems. Mom, you've always been a source of encouragement, and I love you more than you will ever know... Love, Drew
