I don't need you anymore,
Never did.
You've always been with me,
Since a kid.
Why did you and I have to meet,
I wish we never had.
How can I hold on to you so,
It's what makes me sad.
As a boy I played around,
Didn't understand what you were.
I did because you were new found,
You became a friend, my senses you stirred.
I don't need you anymore...
... It's what makes me mad.
As I grew I began to realize,
To see what you did.
I was still young with child eyes,
I couldn't always see you as a kid.
I don't need you anymore...
... It's what makes me sad.
As I grew yet older into a teen,
I became aware of your hurt.
If only earlier I had seen,
It would be easier to toss you like an old shirt.
I don't need you anymore...
... It's what makes me mad.
As I became a man I hate,
The thought of you at all.
Yet I can't open that gate,
To freedom from your wall.
I don't need you anymore...
... It's what makes me sad.
This man is weary now,
I ask you, Father, to take her away.
I befriended her, don't know how;
Didn't know who she was, free me I pray.
Dad, give me what I am to be;
Not this wretch with this weight.
Take away she who tears me down,
Let me not always take the bait.
Can I hold my head up high,
And carry a much lighter park;
As I begin again,
At her, never to look back.
