If you read 2 chapters of a book
You can't hope to really know the plot
So if you don't let anyone read you
How can you expect someone
To get your story
Words say my next step
Is this truth or fiction
Words mark my way
Seems like there's way too much friction
I guess I'll have to drop that line
Cause I'm off cue
I'll be fine
I like to think I'm an open book
But sometimes I think I divert
To fiction to detract from my bio
Cause, oh Lord, sometimes it takes too long
To read the whole book
And it gets longer every day
Words say my next step
Is this truth or fiction
Words mark my way
Seems like there's way too much friction
I guess I'll have to drop that line
Cause I'm off cue
I'll be fine
I don't even recognize the main character
But only at times
There's glimpses in clips and phrases
As I look back on old scripts
Evening's past
One's heart can become too entwined
As a wise man said
Don't awaken love until it so desires
Dusty paths walked down
Talks that last till 3am
Sitting alone even in a crowded room
Stars shared that make you feel so small
Words say my next step
Is this truth or fiction
Words mark my way
Seems like there's way too much friction
I guess I'll have to drop that line
Cause I'm off cue
I'll be fine
All these chapters must add up
To some kind of happy ending
Cause what kind of story finishes so flat
That's why there's hope in the 11th hour
Cause ya gotta know pieces will fit together
And a conclusion will finish this part of the story
Maybe I jumped the gun
This is no conclusion
This just sets the final conflict
In this story
And the final words
Don't know if I'm telling myself
Of if this is from you
What's past is past
Please just trust me
And I trust your eyes
But I don't trust mine
It's okay you tell me
I know you've failed
You touch my shoulder
I'll help you walk through
This final part
Words say my next step
Is this truth or fiction
Words mark my way
Seems like there's way too much friction
I decide to drop my line
Cause I'm off cue
I'll be fine
Is this truth or fiction
Words mark my way
There's on final thing to say
I'll have to drop my line
I'll be fine
